Computer Clock is Slow – Getting the Clock Set Right

More than likely you have noticed that your computer has a small clock on the bottom corner that lets you know what time it is. This is a great benefit, since you can easily find out the time with a quick glance. However, from time to time, some people may notice that their computer clock is slow by a few minutes or even more than that. Usually you can just reset the clock if the computer clock is slow, and then you can wait a few days to see if the clock keeps the time or if it slowly gets behind again. If it continues to fall behind, you may have to check some other options.

Replacing the Battery in the Motherboard
If you find that the computer clock is slow, even after you have reset it a couple times, there may be a deeper problem. The motherboard battery in your computer could be dying and causing this problem. When this battery in the motherboard gets low, the first sign you will see is a clock that is too slow. You can simply get another battery for your computer motherboard; however, you need to be sure that you purchase the appropriate one. Check on the motherboard for the battery and write down the model number so you are sure to get the right one for your computer. Usually you can find these batteries at any type of electronics store.

Other Programs
In some cases, the battery may not be the problem that makes the computer clock slow. Sometimes it can be a program that is running in the background of your computer that can be the problem. If a new battery did not fix the problem, you may want to find out what programs are running in the background. Close them one by one and see if this helps to keep your clock from lagging. If the program is the problem, you should be able to keep the program from automatically starting.

Synchronize Your Clock
If none of the options have worked and you find that your computer clock is slow then you may need to synchronize your clock. You can do this by purchasing some software that will automatically synchronize your clock or you can go online and synchronize your computer clock with an atomic clock. This will help you make sure that your clock always has the right time.

So, as you can see, if your computer clock is slow, there are a variety of things that can cause the problem. Simply try the different fixes to try and fix the clock, and no doubt you’ll eventually get the clock back to telling the right time.
